Entering a new home is an important aspect of Vaastu Shastra. The first entry in the house at the auspicious moment is called Graha Pravesh ceremony. This custom is done so as to keep evil forces away from entering the new home. Even after land acquisition, a prayer service is performed called as Bhumi Poojan.

A muhurta is selected for grihya pravesha which consists mainly of Ganesha puja.
The mandala is drawn to invoke the gods and nine planets.
An offering in the form of fire known as the havan kunda is carried into every room. Scientifically, the havan kunda has various medicinal ingredients that acts as disinfect and purify the air.
The house is encircled with thread three times from the east direction to keep away evil influences.
A pit is dug in the southeast corner of the boundary of the house. It is then fortified with cowdung paste and worshipped. A brick box containing corn, moss, and flowers is lowered into the pit and filled up. They symbolize fertility and is believed to ensure prosperity.
Holy water sprinkled around the house is to keep evil spirits away. Griha Pujan is completed.
