The Battle of Kurukshetra ended with Pandava’s victory over death of all Kauravas except for Dhritarashtra`s son from a vyasa dasi, Yuyutsu. Most of the stories taught and told are about what happened in Mahabharata before and during the war. But only a few knows about the aftermath.
Only 7 survived the battle... The battle ended with only the Pandavas, Satyaki, Kripa, Ashwatthama, Kritavarma, Yuyutsu and Krishna as survivors. Yudhishthira succeeded to the throne of Hastinapura thereafter.
Gandhari`s curse to Lord Krishna... Gandhari was devastated seeing the bloodshed and plight of her sons after the war. She got furious at Lord Krishna because instead of having the divine power to stop the war, he chose to sides. She cursed him that he will witness the same annihilation of his own family. It took 36 years for Gandhari`s curse to materialize. Lord Krishna was mistakenly shot at by Jiru.
Dwaraka drowns... As Dwaraka drowns in the sea, Arjuna comes to rescue the dwindling clan of the Yadavas. Only the old men, women and children, and the 16,000 wives of Krishna could survive.
Pandavas` renouncement... Vyasa tells Arjuna who was questioning on his war abilities failing to protect those who depended on him, that the Pandavas have served their purpose of their life and should get ready for their final descent to the Himalayas. Parikshit, grandson of Arjuna and son of Abhimanyu was crowned as the new king.
Yudhishthira`s final test... While on his journey to the mountains, Indra appears on his chariot asking Yudhishthira to commence with him but to leave the dog behind. Yudhishthira requests him to take the dog along and keeps insisting. The dog was actually the deity Dharma who was testing his virtues. Eventually both enters in Indra’s chariot to heaven.
Happy reunion... According to Mahabharata, Karna, Pandavas and Dhritirashtra`s sons reunites in heaven as they let go off their angst and rivalry against each other.
