According to a mythological incident from eastern Indians, Lord Krishna once disguised as Goddess Kali as a part of His lila. It is said that Radharani was married to Ayan Ghosh who was a shepherd like Krishna.
In the puranic forest of Vrindavana, Lord Krishna used to play his flute every night and Srimati Radharani would quietly slip out from her home to secretly meet with her lover in the deep forests.
However, she was eventually spied upon by Ayan`s shrewd mother Jatila and sister Kutila who informed about Radha`s adultery.
An infuriated Ayan set off to punish the miscreant of his wife unaware of the fact that Sri Krishna already knew what was in the air.
Krishna quickly asked Radha to pick up all the wild fruits and flowers that she could find and sit down at his feet in a worshipful gesture.
Krishna quickly transformed to Kali, the ishta or chosen deity of Ayan and waited for his arrival.
When Ayan found his wife offering flowers to Goddess Kali he was overwhelmed with such gesture on wife, Radha`s part. Krishna thus saved Radharani.
