Vastu is the science of directions created by combining all the five elements of nature, Panchbhutas and thereafter balancing them in our day-to-day lives.
The concept is considered quite righteous for enhanced health, wealth, prosperity and happiness.
The world revolves around five basic elements or the Panchabhutas: Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space. Of all the planets in the solar system, earth has life because of the presence of these five elements.
Vastu is a part of Vedas which are heeded with divine knowledge. The art of Vastu originates in the Stapatya Veda, a part of the Atharva Veda.
The principles of construction, architecture and sculpture dates centuries back. However, the observations and corrections made were noted and concluded only after in depth screening of the situation.
In the Mahabharata, a number of tall and majestic houses were built for the kings who were invited to the city Indraprastha for the Rajasuya Yagna of King Yuddhistira.
The houses were free from obstructions, had compounds with high walls and their doors were of uniform height and inlaid with numerous metal ornaments.
Again, Ramayana’s site plan finds its similarity to the plan found in the great architectural text Manasara.
To sum up, Vastu is a mixture of science, astronomy and astrology. It is the study of the sun, moonlight and heat, the earth’s atmosphere, wind direction, magnetic field and gravitation force on human beings.
However, the concept has always been open for debate and will continue in the future as well.
